HOME IS WHERE THE ART IS
Funded by Brent Borough of Culture 2020 Home is Where the Art is brought together older people attending Elders Voice Daycentre with children from nearby primary school, Princess Frederica.
Project Aims:
To foster connections and meaningful interaction between different generations living in the same area.
To create an environment in which children and older people from different cultures and generations could meet, learn from one and other and co-create.
Through weekly creative workshops facilitated by the LEAP team, the intergenerational group explored the theme of ‘home’.
Activities rooted in a multi-sensory approach triggered stories and memories that were shared amongst the participants through the co-creation of art pieces, drama interactions, music and song.
Impact
Connections & Engagement
“There was a fantastic level of meaningful engagement between older and younger Participants. I learnt new things about the clients who attend the day centre.”

“It was the energy in the room that was amazing. The clients from the day centre and children became engaged in such a short period of time.”

Wellbeing
“The children are loving it! They are excited every week to come to Elders Voice. Some quieter children have really come out of their shell.”
Teaching Assistant, Princess Frederica School
“What I observed was a high level of excitement from the older participants.”

Confidence
“I was pleasantly surprised to see some of the more reserved children really coming out of their shell as the weeks progressed. They not only became more confident in talking to the older people but also forged bonds with other children who they didn’t know well before. They have definitely taken this confidence back to school with them and are thriving as a result.”
Teacher, Princess FredericaSchool
“I really like the way you facilitate the workshops, it values people’s experience. It really brings people to life. J comes to life! H doesn’t really get involved in anything we do and he has been really enjoying it. It just seems really natural… the adults and children complement each other.”
